Mr Butcher the Baker Ltd was formed in February 1961, the founder Jack Butcher, started the business as a Master Baker in Hurst Green in Surrey. The business grow over a number of years and become and extremely popular and successful family bakery business based in Surrey. At this point Jack decided to diversify into buying property within Oxted and Hurst Green ,which the company still owns today. The plan was to form a lasting legacy for the family and future family dependents. The company is over 60 years old and still remains financially sound with a high D&B rating.
The bakery business was sold in early 1980 after Jack’s heath declined, he then focused his time and energy to build a property portfolio for future generations of the Butcher family. Guidance from Jack to the family was simple ‘do not treat the business as your own, it’s under your guidance and care, you should work to hand on the business in a better financial position than when you receive it’.
In March 2023 Beryl Butcher sadly passed away, she had run the company since Jacks death in 2001. Under the current management structure this ethos is fully embraced by its current Managing Director Stewart Butcher.
The company is currently looking at possible redevelopment projects within its portfolio, which in turn will maximize its asset management portfolio in preparation for the next generation to take over the mantal.
The heritage of the company is important and we are aware that we are the current custodian, its important for the next generation to take the company to the next level whist adhering to our core company values.
